Meet Dan

A New York native, Dan has devoted his life to the service of his country and community. Already a prior-service Navy veteran, on September 11th, 2001 he re-enlisted and served two combat tours as an infantryman in Iraq with the Hawaii Army National Guard. Upon returning home to New York, he enrolled at Fordham University, earning his BA in Communications and Journalism, while continuing to serve in the New York National Guard. He is currently a Master of Social Work Candidate, also at Fordham, receiving his degree in May, 2020.
“I believe in doing the right thing, even when no one’s looking. Daily subway failures, the soaring cost of housing, closed-door political deals, and a relentless drive to commercialize our neighborhoods have been plaguing the greatest city in the world for too long. We demand better. We demand our voices be heard in Albany.”

Interning for a city representative also opened his eyes to the myriad needs of a constituency trying to live while facing eviction, homelessness, food insecurity and the dangers of constant construction overtaking our neighborhoods. As one of the first responders during the Tohoku earthquake in Fukushima Japan, and again for Hurricane Sandy at Rockaway Beach, Dan saw firsthand the long-term disruption to people’s lives after a natural disaster. That’s why the issue of climate change and better preparing our city and state for the next overwhelming event is so important, as well as making sure the safety nets put in place for such tragedies work quickly & effectively.

Dan also has a passion for photography and travel, recently visiting India, and Guatemala. He lives in Kips Bay with his partner Madelaine, a registered architect, and their senior blind rescue dog Nicky.
